Intergroup Processes and
Social Equity Lab

Welcome to the IPSE Lab!
In the Intergroup Process and Social Equity (IPSE) Lab at Tufts University, we use a critical race framework to study how the legacy of racism contributes to present-day societal inequities. Our research examines how interconnected factors at the personal, interpersonal, institutional, and systemic levels shape the experiences of social groups defined by identities such as race, gender, and sexuality. We also investigate how membership in these social groups influences individuals' thoughts, feelings, and behaviors regarding social inequities. Our approach considers perspectives from both societally marginalized and advantaged groups, as well as those with intersecting marginalized identities, to understand how these dynamics shape power and inequality in healthcare, criminal justice, and workplace settings.
Our lab is committed to conducting rigorous, theory-driven research to combat racism and other forms of marginalization, using psychological insights to promote social justice and equity.
IPSE Lab Core Research Questions
